Home Theater Electronics - Your Theater Support System

By Jennifer Bowers

You can't have a home theater without home theater electronics to support your movie-watching experience. If you simply watch movies by slipping in a DVD into your player and turning on the TV, it just won't be the same as what you could potentially have.

Just ask your local psychiatrist - escapism can be good for you - and one good form of escapism is watching movies. By watching movies, you can get away from the anxiety and pressure of the workaday world and feel like a teenager years after the fact.

Take a good look at your home and assess where would be the best place to install your home theater electronics. Don't have it installed where it is in direct contact with the sun's rays. Even if you are using a flat screen TV, as long as you set up the TV horizontally across a window, you may need special curtains to prevent the glare from streaming in.

A flat screen TV would give you a better-looking picture, so make that your first priority when you begin shopping for home theater electronics to set up. Flat-screen TVs are much more affordable than in the past, when they cost an arm and a leg.

Once you've settled the issue of the TV screen, you'll need to decide the number of home theater speakers you want. Keep in mind the size of the room that you set up your home theater in.

Always go with surround sound, and go for something like six speakers and a sub woofer to best approximate theater-quality sound. Remember that speakers have a power rating that lets you know what kind of power you'll get.

Don't just get any DVD player for your home theater electronics system - it would be best if you jump on the Blu-Ray bandwagon if you haven't yet. You'll want to make sure you get the best for your home system so look for progressive scan capabilities.

This refers to how your DVD processes the image, so don't get thrown off by the advanced lingo. The pixels are read in order. And you won't see that in all the DVD players you look at. What does it mean to you? It means you get a better image when you watch a movie.

You can spend any amount on your home theater electronics, but the part you'll find the most valuable isn't expensive at all - a surge protector. Without it, you could lose every piece of your theater. This is simply a means of protecting your labor of love and your family as well, just in case the electronics go haywire.
