Enjoy the different qualities of DJs and bands at wedding receptions

By Rufus Powell

Wedding entertainment is one of those really contentious issues that pops up whenever there is a wedding to arrange. It is the subject of countless debate as people try to figure out whether mobile DJs are best for the job or whether wedding bands are a better option.

What you can always guarantee where mobile DJs are concerned is that you will not get covers, but the original tracks that have become party favourites. When you book a DJ, you can tell them the sort of mood you are going for and the general tastes you want to satisfy and they will work out a playlist to match.

This is certainly not to say that function bands are not versatile. In fact, wedding bands tend to have large back catalogues so that they can deal with a range of different tastes. They too will focus on the kind of songs that make for a really good celebration and they will listen to your specifications for the evening.

Sometimes you can make the day a bit more personal and bit more special by booking bands for hire. For instance, if there is a particular band that suits the shared preferences of the couple it might be worth looking for suitable tribute bands.

As far as making the wedding music part of the more personal approach to organising a wedding reception is concerned, few approaches are more successful than this. Your main aim is to cater for the bride and groom on an intimate level at the same time as connecting with the guests.

It is a very smart move to try and mix things up by investing in a wedding band and a mobile DJ for the evening. You could kick the entertainment off with a band before lettering the DJ take over when the party is properly up and running.
